A Rare Cause of Back Pain: Spontaneous Spinal Epidural Hematomas

چکیده
Spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma (SSEH) is a very rare clinical condition, which requires urgent surgery. It may result, if diagnosis and treatment are delayed, in a permanent neurological deficit or even in death. In this article, we present three cases with SSEH, a 27 year-old male patient with a severe back pain following heavy lifting, and an 18 year-old male patient with complaints of acute onset pain on cervico-thoracic region and acute neurologic deficits in lower extremities, and a 5 year-old hemophiliac boy who had some complaints such as back and neck pain and torticollis who were admitted to our clinic. Physicians should consider diagnosis of SSEH, especially when a patient presents with sudden-onset back or neck pain with or without symptoms or signs of spinal cord compression and it should also be kept in mind that SSEH can manifest itself as an unusual presentation such as torticollis.

Spinal epidural haemorrhage may present as back pain associated with radicular symptoms and can be a catastrophic clinical scenario with progression to paraplegia or even sudden death. Being a rare entity, it needs a high index ofclinical suspicion to diagnose it. Fractures have been documented as a cause of hematorrachis but such hematomas only extend to one or two vertebral segments. Large ep...

Spontaneous Spinal Epidural Hematoma (SSEH) is a rare spinal condition. Early surgical intervention is generally indicated to prevent serious permanent neurological deficits. We encountered a case of spontaneous spinal epidural hematomas associated with motor weakness that was treated successfully by surgical evacuation.

BACKGROUND Iatrogenic or spontaneous spinal hematomas are rarely seen and present with multiple symptoms that can be difficult to localize. Most spontaneous spinal hematomas are multifactorial, and the pathophysiology is varied. Here, we present a case of a scattered, multicomponent, combined subdural and epidural spinal hematoma that was managed conservatively. CASE DESCRIPTION A 38-year-old...

Traumatic spinal epidural hematoma (TSEH) is a neurosurgical emergency which is considered as one of the rare causes of back pain. The onset of symptoms presentation can vary especially following a trauma. Here, we report a case where a young girl had a trivial fall and presented symptoms of back pain three days later. She developed abrupt onset of lower limb weakness during her stay in the eme...
